Cat Power: You Are Free Album Review

You Are Free is the sixth album by Chan Marshall, also known as Cat Power. Cat Power has become increasingly popular these last couple of years, including this album from 2003. Her music style is a combination of Bob Dylan, Joanna Newsome, and Andrew Bird. Your Are Free containes soft melodies as well as melancholic ones. Musicians such as the drummer from Nirvana, David Grohl and vocalist of Pearl Jam, Eddie Verder, collaborated in the album.

1. I Don't Blame You

This song has been connected to the deceased musician Kurt Cobain. Cat Power hasn't confirmed or denied these assumptions but the song is about a famous musician who takes his life away due to fame.

2. Free

Free is one of the most upbeat songs of the album with happy folk tunes. It also contains some noticable musical elements such as a 1980s influenced drum beats, 1960s organ tunes, and modern guitar riffs.

 

5. Werewolf

This song was used in Jessica Biel's 2009 movie, Blue Powder. This song is for those listeners who appreciate home made tape recordings with a hint of blues.
