Music and Lyrics (Music Mania)
Lyrics are more important to me than music. I've watched the movie "Music and Lyrics" and I can't agree more when Drew Barrymore said that Music is the first thing that attracts us to a song but then, the lyrics are like the soul of the song. The music may be so beautiful and attractive but if the lyrics don't make sense..then its worthless. It's like meeting someone for the first time. The music is like the physical attraction but knowing the person deeply is like the lyrics. -ElaineM, 20 from Philippines
I think the music is the most important part. It's like with that band you featured a while ago- Funeral for a Friend. Half the time you can't even understand what they're saying, but the songs are amazing, because of the music. -Ashton, 15 from Virginia
Lyrics are important, but they're not everything. There are a lot of songs I like that have really awful lyrics, but the music is so catchy I can't stop listening to them. I think the music is what pulls a person into the song and brings out your emotions. -Sa5m, 17 from United States

Ashton, good point! It is extremely difficult to understand what is being said in a lot of really great songs.

More on Miley (Music Mania)
Sarah, 23 from United States writes...
I honestly don't think Miley's performance was that big of a deal.
Firstly, even though she is a Disney star, that performance wasn't sponsered by Disney. It was a TEEN choice award, no 7 year old will be watching that. Also, since she is a Disney star, their records will have a notification about what performances she does. If that performanced was deemed inappropriate by them, then it wouldn't have happened.
Also, her mom and dad according to the tabloids know what she is doing and are at every performance. Obviously they understand that she is a teen and this is her career. To entertain people.
Secondly. What was wrong with her outfit? Her shorts were short yes, but so is every other teenage girl in America and Canada. As a star you have to be up to date with the styles. She was just putting her taste and the trend together. How can someone critize her on that?
Cathy says...
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I gave mine last week, so I won't say much more. I will just point out that a lot of 7 year olds probably did watch the award show. Just because it's called the Teen Choice Awards doesn't mean that the audience is limited to teenagers. If Miley/Hannah Montana fans know she's going to perform and it's going to be on TV do you really think they're not going to watch it?

Lykke Li (Music Mania)
Lykke Li

Recently, I've been listening to Lykke Li over the past few days. Her indie pop songs, unique voice and eccentric music tones will make you want to dance to every beat of her songs!

Lykke Li is a Swedish Indie singer that has worked with Kanye West, Kings of Leon and other big artists around the globe. She also preformed in Coachelle, the biggest California music festival, in April 2009. One of her singles, "I'm Good, I'm Gone" is one of my favorite songs, you can hear two of the versions here and here. Also there has been many good remixes of it from Black Kid's remix, which was used in the movie Sorority Row, to Fred Flake's remix which became an instant dance hit.

This is another of her hit singles, "Little Bit". You can watch the official music video below!
If you want to listen more of Lykke Li you can go to her myspace page here or her website! Send in your favorite artist so it can be featured in the next Music Mania!

My most favorite song lyrics of all time (Poetry Cafe)
I have a couple of songs that I really really like, and mostly it is just because of the lyrics. For example, Panic! At The Disco's first album (A Fever You Can't Sweat Out) had some amazing lyrics, which almost always had a deeper meaning to them. I really like the lyrics to "Build God, Then We'll Talk."
It's these substandard motels on the corner of 4th and Fremont Street.
Appealing only because they are just that un-appealing
Any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering.
The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde,
And the habit of decomposing right before your very eyes.
Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Tonight tenants range from: a lawyer and a virgin
Accessorizing with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie
She's getting a job at the firm come Monday.
The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney
moonlighting aside, she really needs his money.
Oh, wonderful caricature of intimacy.
And not to mention, the constable, and his proposition, for that "virgin"
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on "strictly business"
as he said to the Mrs. Well, only hours before,
after he had left, she was fixing her face in a compact.
There was a terrible crash (There was a terrible crash)
Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag, and held a "purse" of a different kind.
Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses.
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things.
Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things.
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things.
Raindrops on roses and the girls in white dresses
And sleeping with the roaches and they taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things.
Aaron Brown explains it quite well on SongMeanings:
This particular song is about: A hooker! (caricature of intimacy)
They set up the lyrics to tell a story about the routine a hooker goes through on a usual night.. but this one happens to be the night she got caught.
Tonight tenants range from a lawyer and a virgin" (keyword tonight)
Moonlighting aside, she really needs his money
Oh, What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
"Moonlighting" is to work at another job, often at night, ("what a wonderful caricature of intimacy") in addition to one's full-time job.
Purse of a different kind = Black book. black book: a little note pad often used to write down names of clientele, or important dates and times. "Along with The people inside "
There are no
Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things
Textbook lyrics for a sad life... and definitely a play on The Sound Of Musics "A Few Of My Favorite Things."
The terrible crash is when the cops came in and busted her.
Another song that I really like the lyrics to is "Let It Rock" by Kevin Rudolph feat. Lil Wayne. Although I didn't understand the lyrics the first time round, it was only because I wasn't familiar with the Buble.

I see your dirty face
High behind your collar
What is done in vain
Truth is hard to swallow
So you pray to God
To justify the way you live a lie, live a lie, live a lie
And you take your time
And you do your crime
Well you made your bed
I'm in mine
Because when I arrive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Let It Rock [3]
Now the son's disgraced
He, who knew his father
When he cursed his name
Turned, and chased the dollar
But it broke his heart
So he stuck his middle finger
To the world
To the world
To the world
And you take your time
And you stand in line
Well you'll get what's yours
I got mine
Because when I arrive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Let It Rock [3]
Yeah!
Wayne's world
Planet Rock
Panties drop
And the tops
And she gonna rock 'til the camera stop
And I sing about angels like Angela
And Pamela
And Samantha
And Amanda
And Tamara
Ménage à trois
I'm in here up like bitch what's up
Mechanic, me, I can fix you up
I can dick ya up
I can dick ya down
Shorty we can go wherever just pick a town
And the jewelry is louder than an engine sound
Big ass rocks like off the ground
Baby like sex that's on the ground, Weezy
My aim is perfect Ill bang ya
Because when I arrive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Let It Rock [3]
Because when I arive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Just Let It Rock
Let It Rock [3]
I'm back like I forgot somethin
I'm somethin
Rollin' Rock rubbin' rap runnin'
Miles like I'm trying to get a flat stomach
Like Wayne the personal trainer
My aim is perfect I'll fuck ya
Period, Like the remainder
I wish I could be
As cool as you
And I wish I could say
The things you do
But I can't and I won't live a lie
No not this time
So, after I heard the song the first time, I decided to go on SongMeanings (again) and find out what the lyrics were truly about. Dcrenshaw27 had some really insightful things to say about the lyrics:
I see your dirty face
High behind your collar
When picking his apostles, Jesus didn't know who was going to betray him, although it was prophesied in Zechariah 11:12 about Jesus being betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. However after observing his apostles, he figured it out. (John 13:2) Contrary to popular belief, the last supper only included 11 apostles, not 12. Jesus dismissed Judas and the covenant was with the 11 remaining faithful ones. (John 13:21-30)
What is done in vain
Truth is hard to swallow
So you pray to God
To justify the way you live a lie, live a lie, live a lie
Judas was greedy. His greed overtook him, like his father, (behavior wise) Satan. He betrayed Jesus and now he knows that God is going to destroy him forever. That is very hard to swallow. Also the Pharisees and Saducees had to swallow it. That's why they didn't put the money in the temple treasury. It's blood money. They knew that Jesus was the Messiah because of their greed, they rejected him and had the people do so to. Furthermore, Judas tried to hang himself, but God caused the branch to break and died a horrible death. The Saducees and Pharisees bought a field with that money (Potter's grave) to make things "right." They were living a lie. (Acts 1:18 and Matthew 27:5-7)
And you take your time
And you do your crime
Well you made your bed
I'm in mine
Judas and the priests plotted and schemed in an effort to betray Jesus. Their bed is everlasting death, while Jesus is in Heaven.
Because when I arrive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What the saints, forgot
I must now remind you
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Jesus will return as King of God's Kingdom and those not living in harmony with God's will not reap their due. Those who are will reap an award. We all need reminding of this fact.
Now the son's disgraced
He, who knew his father
When he cursed his name
Turned, and chased the dollar
But it broke his heart
So he stuck his middle finger
To the world
To the world
To the world
Deuteronomy 21:23 says, "Accursed is the one hanging on a stake." Jesus was disgraced because they said he blasphemed and misrepresenting who he actually was. Judas and the priests undoubtedly knew who Jesus was and still didn't repent of his of sins. Another common misconception is that Judas felt sorry that why he hung himself. He just felt remorse under the burden of guilt.
I wish I could be
As cool as you
And I wish I could say
The things you do
But I can't and I won't live a lie
No not this time
This verse could be construed as sarcastic. He can't say and do the things that Lil' Wayne or the majority of this world is doing. He's standing out as a righteous one.

A Review From A Reader (Music Mania)
Alexandra, 18 writes...
Mind if I submit a little review/suggestion? I went to this great concert last night, and all of the acts were really talented and fun-- I recommend looking into all of them. First up was the Local Natives. They had some really great harmonies and guitar bits. Next was Fools' Gold. Kind of a jam band, with great rhythms, a lot of fun to dance to, as well as pretty engaging with the crowd. Also, they sing their songs in Hebrew, which is pretty cool! And then was the main act: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. They were awesome. I felt like I was transported back to the 60's, but, at the same time, their music was definitely unique, and not a cookie-cutter callback to oldies. I love their song "Home", which reminds one of Johnny Cash and Jude Carter in some ways... Oh, and Jade (the female singer in the band) is just so adorable. And what can I say? They're definitely worth giving a listen to, in my opinion. I'd never heard them before last night, and I've spent all day listening to them, I feel like I have so much catching up to do! Happy listening!Ivette says...
Thanks for submitting your review, I will definitely take a listen to all the bands you listed!
