Goals of PurplePJs

The purpose of Purple Pyjamas is to provide an opportunity for tweens, teens, and young adults to meet, discuss topics of interest to them, share experiences, and learn from each other in a community that values diversity, acceptance, and open dialogue for everyone. We offer a place for you to laugh, vent, express yourself, and cure boredom. We are a community with a sense of comfort and coziness where our visitors can relax and be themselves!

The Concept

The concept is to allow visitors to contribute material to just about every page on the site, to give them the opportunity to edit their own page, and to get as silly or as serious as they want.

Our language and topics reflect the general interests of guys and girls who have the maturity to handle open discussions about a variety of subjects. While we discourage gratuitous cussing, we do permit what we call "locker room" language. We encourage controversy, but hateful thoughts will not be permitted. We expect essays and short stories to be well written, but PurplePJs is not a literary site. Your participation is welcomed even if your writing skills aren't the greatest. We're more interested in sincerity and passion in your stories and comments than in grammar or spelling. However, we do ask that you try your best when submitting material as selection for publication includes readability.

Why "PurplePJs"?

As an online community, PurplePJs seeks to be a place where readers and contributors can feel comfortable in expressing themselves, regardless of who they are. Like your favorite pyjamas (or pajamas), we want to be the most comfortable place you spend your time online, that's why we have columns that cover almost every subject out there and an active Lounge where readers can communicate directly with each other to talk about anything from intellectual debates to venting about the day's activities. PurplePJs is your site.

Where is PurplePJs?

Everywhere! We fully embrace what technology can do for us. That said, there are no central offices or one particular place that we target with our content. Contributors and staff come from all around the world: anywhere with a computer and an internet connection. We invite people from all places and backgrounds to take part in our online community. Fun Facts About The Staff

• At PurplePJs, there's no specific age requirement to become a columnist (except for advice pages) and as a consequence we have a spread of 45 years between the youngest and oldest columnist.
• We have columnists from all over including Ireland, South Africa and Singapore!
• On the staff we have emergency medical technicians, a web developer and countless students in university and high school
• Our staff represent a wide variety of religions, ethnicities and cultures and we are very proud of that fact!
• A few of our staff members have been around since the start of the site, and many others have been reading PurplePJs for years
• We are an interesting bunch and every staff member has a special quirk, such as wearing socks inside out (for good luck), eating sausages with vanilla sauce and doing adventurous things like kissing crocodiles!
