April Showers bring Summer Excitement!
We are so excited to have you here with us at this exciting time!
For long time readers, you know that our current format is not the one we had for over a decade--but we're finally getting in the swing of things with the new method of delivering content to you! We hope you consider this to be an improvement on the old system!
We have a few wonderful things to mention.
Firstly, our staff has grown and we have three outstanding new columnists in particular: Embarr on Sweet Dreams, vintagedarling90 on Hit Me, and Ash on Good Question! These three ladies are generating great content and it's worth your time to keep an eye out for their features!
Additionally, it's been much requested, and we can now say for certain that we are working on making it so content can be submitted anonymously! We know that's something everyone has wanted to more securely make submissions to columns like Ask a Guy, Big Sister, Dear Diary, and Secrets Revealed.
Furthermore, a number of our staff and readers are graduating within the next month here and some are about to go onto college or graduate school, and others are preparing to enter the "real world." Congratulations on your accomplishments! If you'd like to share them with the entire PurplePJs community, please use the submission form at the bottom of this page and we'll be happy to broadcast your good news on the Twitter feed!
In other good news, we recently broke our readership record since switching to this format. It's still not what it was when we hit our peak on the old system, but it is still good news for staff and readers alike!
Historically the summer has always been the busiest season for PurplePJs, and there's no indication that this summer will be any different! So keep tuned in to PurplePJs and get ready to see our first summer in this format and watch us shine!
In the meantime, check out our Twitter feed and feel free to use the submission field at the bottom of the page to send your general feedback and ideas about the site!
Best Always,
Janet

Has PurplePJs Changed?
I love PurplePJs. It's the only place I can find real advice from real people. However, I've recently become disappointed with the new fashion of PurplePJs. I highly dislike the lack of anonymity, since we now have to register to ask questions. I've also found that many of the pages have very little content during every update. I understand that all columnists on this site have a life to tend to, but there was once a time when more than two questions were answered each week. I also understand that some pages do not generate as much traffic as others, resulting in less updates...I don't mind if that's the problem. Another thing I've been noticing are the posting of links and references to articles, yet very few questions are being answered! I hope it doesn't sound like I'm complaining waaay too much, because I honestly love the site...but I seem to be visiting less and less due to these factors.spider | age 17 | April 6, 2010
Janet says...
Hi spider, firstly I must thank you for your honest opinion and feedback about the style of the site. It is important to me to understand how you, the readers feel. PurplePJs is nothing without it's readers and we do understand that. The prior system we were using was becoming dated and combined with a number of other issues that seemed to culminate at once as a sort of perfect storm we had to make a change and do it quickly. As a result, the transition has been rough. Efforts have been made to keep the frequency of updates up and retain staff but we've faced challenges. It seems like folks interact different and expect different things from the internet. We wanted to be more in tune with our competition that updates multiple times daily and is more casual. Trouble is, we aren't like those sites. We're several months into this change and are still adjusting. More than anything, our columnists are still adjusting to the change. After retaining the same format for over a decade the change was too much for some columnists and recruiting and retaining columnists is still an area we're diligently working on. Recently we have also brought a programmer onto our team who can hopefully assist us from a technical standpoint to make some of the changes that you mentioned. For example, being able to submit content anonymously is important! You're absolutely right. On one hand, someone could create a bogus account to submit a question, but really with the time that takes who knows if they'll get around to submitting that burning question after all. Submissions to our advice pages have largely recovered, but for pages like Dear Diary, Secrets Revealed, and Health Nut it is obvious that being able to ask questions anonymously would help. And hopefully in the next few weeks we will have that resolved. We are committed to serving our readers and want your feedback so we can do our jobs better. If you or anyone else out there has suggestions or ideas I do invite their submission. At the core of PurplePJs is a group of young, dedicated volunteers--just like it's always been--and we're in this to learn from each other and hopefully give a little bit of good entertainment to our readers and the rest of the web. With great sincerity, Janet Chief Administrator, PurplePJsTags: purplepjs, changes, new layout
Welcome to the New PurplePJs
PurplePJs started out as a weekly newsletter among friends. As it gained popularity, the writers moved the newsletter to a website format and, on August 1, 1997, the website was born.
Over time, PurplePJs evolved from a weekly publication to a daily publication. We've been publishing almost every single night for around twelve years! Today marks our new beginning as a "perpetual publication."
Columnists will be publishing articles throughout the day. You, the reader, can submit instantaneous comments to published articles. You can also submit new article ideas to us via the submission form you know and love. ![]()
You can look forward to a more interactive experience and a faster response time on your advice questions. We'll be implementing new features as we go and creating even more ways for you to get involved, both as a casual user and as a staff contributor.
