Sweet Dreams
He’s Hiding, Startles Like A Cat
I have recently been having a slew of dreams about a good friend of mine. I like him and at one point he felt the same way, but we're just really good friends. He's been having problems lately, with his gf, and with self-confidence. The 2nd startled me entirely, cuz in the entire time I've known him, he's always supremely sure of himself, anyways... Most the dreams I've had were similar to this one though not the same, I don't remember them now though. I don't remember what happened up to this point but he was under the unfolded futon in his room, I'm pretty sure he was hiding from the way he acted. He used to have really long hair (8 inches long) but shaved it all off for swimming last spring and its grown out a bit, he was staring straight ahead and his hair was in between the length it used to be and where it is now, and chlorine bleached from swimming again. It was really bright, almost sunny, and there was a vague humming noise in the background like when people are talking but you can't quite hear them. He didn't see me as I crawled up to him from his right side, stretched out flat on my stomach I touched his hand and said his name. To explain his reaction, the only thing I've seen like it is when you startle a cat, the way they leap back utterly startled and stare out you nervously, he did just that, and just stared at me, said my name, then one tear slid down his cheek, after that I don't remember what happened.BornSophmoric | age 18 | July 22, 2010

These dreams could indicate something external and/or internal going on in your life. As you mentioned in the beginning, you've recently learned that your friend is having problems with self-confidence and his girlfriend. You could be processing this information through dreaming. There is also the possibility that it's reflecting something on a more personal level. It wouldn't be uncommon for it to be both, since dreams kind of have their own logic divided from our waking lives so let's take a look at both possibilities.
Your guy friend hiding under his unfolded futon could reflect his self-confidence issues. It's not something that many know and the fact that he's hiding under his futon suggests it's a personal issue that he only shares with those that are close to him, or at least you may perceive it as such. You going under the futon with him is your desire to reach out to him. When he startles so severely it could mean that subconsciously you are aware or afraid that he will react badly to you reaching out to him about his personal problems. He shows emotion in the end though when he says your name and a tear slides down his cheek. This shows that while there may be a bad reaction, it also might work out in the end.
Looking at the dreams in a more symbolic manner, your guy friend could also represent a part of yourself that's hiding. While you want to reach out to it, it's not an easy part of yourself to approach. The same possibilities apply to this situation as well, though the characters may be slightly more ambiguous.
