Combining Lunch and Exercise?

At my high school we have a fully equipped gym on the second level and it is open to students during the lunch period. Since I work after school and obviously the time I spend in class isn’t adjustable, after I grab something quick to eat I work out over lunch. Sometimes a couple of my friends join me and other times I just go on my own. Danielle, 17 from Alberta, CAN

The Effort is Worth It

I guess its part of being my age but I can be considered a person who is “always dreaming to be a thin and healthy person”. I have a very busy schedule at school and none of it involves exercise, so I have to do it on my own and I do Pilates (Maria Winsor) to tone and it is a complete miracle. Even when I get used to the workouts I still end up sore day after day. I know some people don’t like it but I feel like the aches are a good thing, it shows I am really doing something for my body. Just in the past two months I have lost about 12 pounds only doing the recommended three times a week workout. Hope you give them a try because they really work! Nicole, 15 from California, USA

It's the Convenience

I feel like I have a busy schedule; I work full-time as a assistant manager and I am also doing a bit of my schooling on-line but since joining the gym that is at my work place making that extra commitment hasn't been that difficult. It is easy for me to finish my shift and hit the gym for an hour. There is no worry about travel time since I work close to home and I love the convenience. Michelle, 18 from Ontario, CAN

Adjustable Time Limits

After reading a previous article of yours where you highlighted the good of work out videos I knew I had to give it a shot. I ended up purchasing one of Kathy Smith’s and she is just wonderful. Even after a long day at work if I only have a half hour to spare I can adjust the work out on the video for that time limit, it really takes away the excuse of not having time. They are such a wonderful investment as far as my health is concerned and I wanted to say thank-you. Carmen, 16 from Alabama, USA

Making it a Priority.

I never look at another person’s schedule without thinking that it must be difficult to find time to exercise. Even myself between working outside of the city, being a student and wanting to have a bit of a social and family life it can be so difficult to make time for such an essential part of my life. I have a day-timer just for that, this gives me the opportunity to look at the full month ahead and schedule time to work out, even if it ends up that I only manage to fit in two days one week and four the next I know I am doing my best. Part of making time is getting yourself organized, no matter if you pull out your day timer or write it on the calendar or make a note of it your journal you are taking the first step to making living actively a routine and that is so important to maintaining an active lifestyle.

A lot of people struggle to get back into routine when the fall off, but rule number one to keeping motivation is not to put yourself down because you had trouble one day. Everyone has a bad day and everyone gets sick from time to time, you are allowed to have a day off. Although with that being said I don’t want to imply that pulling excuses to miss your work out is okay, because it isn’t but there is a huge difference between “I am sick, I didn’t go into work I am not exercising today” and “well, my teacher yelled at me at school and I just don’t feel like I can work out”. If it starts to become a repeat offence that your taking days off really take a look at your reasons why, this could easily motivate you to push yourself even when your tired after school or have that extra homework that you can do after you exercise.

Find something that is convenient, some of the above readers found work out DVDs a great way to fit in a work out because it is right there at home with the options to take only the time you need and others find it best when the place you exercise is right near your other activities. I personally love to go running with my boyfriend and brother, this gives me the opportunity to spend time with them but still get the exercise I need.

Do your best and keep sending in your success stories, I love hearing about them!
